The Zenit-3SL Russian-Ukrainian booster with the Intelsat-19 communications satellite has blasted off from the Odyssey floating platform in the Pacific as part of the Sea Launch project.
Intelsat-19 was designed by the Space Systems Loral Company on request from the Intelsat global satellite operator.
The Sea Launch international consortium was set up back in 1995. Following its 2010 reorganization, Energia Overseas Limited, a subsidiary of the Russian Rocket and Space Corporation Energia, has a 95% stake in the consortium.
A total of more than 30 space rockets have been launched as part of the Sea Launch programme to date.
