Known more for its storage products and media players, WD took its first step into the networking business earlier this year with a series of dual-band routers. These products are finally available in Singapore, with five models going on sale later this month.?

These WD My Net-series?dual-band wireless N routers differ mainly in the maximum?speeds supported and the number of LAN or USB ports. For instance, the top model--the My Net N900--is rated at up to 900Mbps (450Mbps each on its 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands). It also comes with 7 LAN connectors and 2 USB ports.?

The My Net N900 is also available with integrated storage of either 1TB or 2TB. Known as My Net N900 Central, this variant supports automatic wireless backup to its internal storage. However, the Gigabit Ethernet ports have been reduced from 7 to 4. You can also share files stored on the router to other devices in the network. Mac users should also be pleased that it supports Time Machine, which would be useful for those without an Apple Time Capsule. Additionally, there's a Remote Access feature that allows users to access the files within the integrated storage over the Internet.

However, the key feature that's on all these routers is the FasTrack QoS feature that automatically detects the type of traffic over the network, and prioritizes packets used by entertainment services. According to WD, this will improve the performance of video and audio streaming over your home network.?

According to our CNET.com colleague in his My Net N900 Central review, WD's FasTrack QoS feature works without requiring any user configuration, as it automatically prioritizes audio, video and voice-over IP gaming. This is unlike most other wireless routers, which usually require users to do so manually. FasTrack is turned on by default, though users can disable it using the router's Web interface.

The My Net routers will be available at retailers in Singapore by the middle of the month at the following recommended retail prices:?

  • My Net N600 - S$99
  • My Net N750 - S$159
  • My Net N900 - S$239
  • My Net N900 Central (1TB) - S$329
  • My Net N900 Central (2TB) - S$399
